The year was 1746. The place - Tobinsport, Indiana. Reverend
Michael Carr accepted his first assignment in the local Methodist Church in 1746
and later married his long time sweetheart, Miss Alice Merriweather. Everything
seemed alright in the world for the new Mrs. Carr until the night of October
30th, 1747, the first anniversary of their marriage. Alice began to see and hear
strange things in her new home; animals were mutilated, local children began to
disappear and her husband had become someone she no longer knew. He had become
obsessed with the occult. He knew he could exorcise the demons of his
parrishoners if he could just understand what they were. The morning after their
first anniversary, Halloween, Reverend Carr went to the local magistrate to
report that his wife had taken her own life by hanging herself from a tree on
the trail leading to their home. After some investigation, the magistrate
concluded that Alice had disappeared without a trace, never to be seen again.
Some say that if you visit Chappel House today, you can still see Alice swinging
from the 'Hanging Tree', you can hear the screams and crys of those who have
disappeared and you can even hear Alice's haunting words being whispered through
the trees, "Go away, if you enter here, you too will become a victim of
Chappel House"!
